The Lion King 2019 | Movie Review by a real person

WARNING: Spoilers for those who never saw the original!

There is nothing like seeing a movie on the big screen! I have to say that I am so happy we decided to see The Lion King 2019 version this evening. Spending $60 to see a movie is usually not in the budget, but our daughter insisted that we needed to see it.

As a young girl in 1994 when the original movie came out, I have to say that The Lion King was my favorite movie. I was very pleased to see that even though so much has changed between the two generations, the movie is still exactly the same! I was able to quote every line that I could remember from watching the movie a hundred times over. I sang along to all of the old songs. It truly brought back a piece of me from the past that was long forgotten.

It was amazing to see how the realistic  animation brought the movie to life. Everything in such detail with some even greater camera angles. I would have to watch the original again to be sure, but it felt like every moment from the original movie was right there in great detail. From the mouse scurrying through the land and into Scars cave to the bugs crawling in other scenes. The one thing about the mouse that I am rembering from the original is Scar holding it by the tail dangling it over his mouth, but this one he just held it between his paws before it escapes. Either the original layout escapes me or they lightened it up a bit for today's generation who can't seem to handle such things any more.

Though I must say that they didn't lighten up other moments which I am thankful because you feel those moments as they happen and you emotionally go through the characters feelings. Only a great movie can make you do that. As the scene builds up to Mufasa's death I watched my daughter go through the emotions on the edge of her seat as I did the first time I watched it. Still you feel it over and over. This was no exception, I felt every moment with Simba.

I was very surprised to see that James Earl Jones came back as Mufasa. It would have been nice to have Woppi back, but I know she was real sick for some time. That was likely during the time they were making the movie. Not a huge Seth Rogen fan, but he did well and kept it clean so that is all I can ask. The only other name I recognize is Beyonce which I was surprised to see as well. I felt it was a flawless performance by all voices.

The movie even had the startling title pop up at you at the beginning and end just like the first. I was just so entranced on how they were able to duplicate the original so well.

If you are trying to decide if you want to see this in the theater or wait, I would for sure recommend this in the theater. If you saw the original and loved it then it is a must see in the theater. If you are like me and want to wait a couple months to hit it up on Red Box for only $1.75, well I can not hold that against you. People have theater sized TV's now a days anyway so either way you will not regret seeing this movie. I give this a big thumbs up and 5 of 5 stars for doing such a great job.

Let me know what you all think! Those who have to point out every flaw feel free to point that out below too.
